After The Holidays
After the joy of the holidays are over, my mind & body needs some TLC.
Getting back into a routine of investing in care for you is very important. Let’s face it; if you don’t do it, who will? Taking care of yourself is not about being selfish—even though we may feel that way down deep—it’s about YOU and that’s a good thing.
One of my favorite things to start off the new year with is a walk in nature. It could be as simple as walking around the block. When you do this, “be present,” smell the air, notice what it smells like. What does the day look like? Are the birds out singing? Is there much traffic around?
“Be Present with Your Surroundings”
Here’s what my walk around the block felt like today. The day was partially cloudy with the smell of snow in the air—yes—us New Yorkers can smell snow! The sparrows were all around, the geese up in the sky flying in formation, the occasional dog walking their masters. I love looking at the winter landscapes of homes, how barren the shrubs look, yet the beauty they still hold.
When I come in from outside I usually head for the bath or shower, but before I wash I do something called Dry Brushing.
Dry brushing helps to:
- Stimulate Your Lymphatic System
- Exfoliation
- Increase Circulation
- Reduce Cellulite
- Stress Relief
- Improve Digestion and Kidney Function
Dry skin brushing stimulates your lymphatic system, aiding in detoxification. When your lymphatic system is not working properly, waste and toxins can build up and make you sick.
It's Invigorating to dry brush!

Lastly, I like to have myself a cup of warm milk mixed with spices I purchased the last time I was in Sri Lanka, and then settle down in my comfy chair with my favorite book.
Spices used in Milk:
1 Tbs. Ceylon cinnamon
1 Tbs Cardamom
2 Tbs. Yellow king coconut Powder
1 Tbs. Black pepper
Directions:
Mix all spices together add 1/4 tsp. to milk, sweeten with Coconut palm sugar jaggery and add a tsp. of Ghee for an added pleasure to your taste buds.
